"Sans pareil"= beyond parallel or none better, a perfect description of this incredible black tea from Fujian. After seeing the growers price I wasn't even going to seriously taste this tea, so far is it from my usual budget. But taste it I did and was gobsmacked by it's quality and generousity. So buy some i did, to very gently mark up and share with the most discerning of customers.
Tiny single buds are picked in early spring, gently wilted/dried before a long, gentle oxidation process begins. The tea is finished with low heat to dry the tea to a finished product.
Dry this JJM is a tiny, curled golden leaf. Wet, a rich auburn pile of tiny, delicate leaves.
Poring the tea through a fine strainer results in a felt-like mat of Pekoes/hairs from the leaf and a gorgeous copper liquor, light and nuanced that just gives and gives after one has dialed in to it's beauty and dimensions.
Reminiscent of Turkish Delight, with malt, caramel and mineral highlights, it will steep clear cup after cup after cup...
NB as stocks are limited and the markup very minimal, it is unlikely we will see this fabulous tea again at these prices. Jump. In. Fast..!!!
Grown- At 1000+m in a cool, cloudy region in western Fujian, bordering JiangXi.
Cultivar- FuYun #6
Harvest- early April 2022

About The Tea Catcher
1997-2001 The Tea Catcher lived, travelled, worked and studied in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Italy and the Czech Republic. During this time he drank much tea and visited tea growing regions.
2001-2009 Was spent mostly in Europe working with fine foods and olive oils in Italy, wine in Switzerland and tea in Prague. It was here in the cold winter months that The Tea Catcher passion was ignited. Much time was spent in the many tea rooms found all over the Czech Rep., drinking, learning and assisting, and also with Tea Mountain(.cz) as his business began and grew.
2010-today on return to Australia, The Tea Catcher seed, planted years ago, began its’ growth, leading to the purveyor of “the finest teas and accoutrements, sourced worldwide” that you see today. New teas, pots etc are constantly being chased, studied, sampled and ordered to bring the freshest, best and most interesting to you as soon as possible. Watch this space…..!
…and enjoy…!
cheers, Stu
